03.jpg - Square Dance, 73" x 73", 1993.This was the first quilt created on my own. I started using my studio techniques to design the work. I made a center module and then expanded out in all directions from there. I cut, sewed, and designed the work as I went. If some part of the design did not "feel right," I would take it apart and redo the image until I found what I wanted. When the quilt was complete, I appreciated displaying it "on point." From that perspective, the squares in the design seemed to dance up off of the surface. Unexpected delight! In this quilt, I shaped the edge of the quilt because I saw how my Great Grandmother from Kentucky scalloped the edges of some of her quilts that I had been gifted with.
