| Enter By The Western Gate, 81" x 83 1/2" 2007
This quilt was started when a grandson called one night and asked us to talk with him about religious beliefs. We went to the library and started a wide ranging conversation. When we read about the life and teachings of Buddha, one sentence in a book said to "enter by the western gate." I used that as a title for this image that contains a quiet meditation area in the center with gardens, gates, and stone walls surrounding it. I used the clorox gel discharge process in conjunction with my foam plate printing process to create the textures and shapes. Lastly, I enjoyed creating a border created a mandala shape. |
